Sweet Treats for the Season

November 28, 2011

This Holiday season, it’s time to get cozy in the kitchen.  Whether you’re looking for affordable
housewarming treats or last-minute gift ideas, these simple, do-it-yourself indulgences
are perfect for all palettes.

Cut-out sugar cookies are a delicious option for those with a sweet tooth.  Decorate these buttery delights with melted chocolate, candy dots, or ice them with a sugar glaze for a nice variety of tastes.  You might even sandwich them with a soft filling like Nutella for a softer kind of sweet.

For the caffeine lover, consider making your own mini bags of coffee.  Perfect for gift bags and stocking stuffers, take a large bag of whole beans or ground and divvy it up into custom mini-bags. You might want to try take-out cartons or cellophane candy bags as other packaging options as well.

An even more adult delicacy, try these delicious alcohol-infused cherries.  Wash and pit some cherries.  Heat some bourbon or your alcohol of choice in a pan on the stove, using one cup of alcohol per pint of cherries. Once the liquor simmers, turn off the heat and add the cherries.  Let the mixture cool, and then pour into a tightly lidded glass jar.  Put it in the fridge, let sit for two days, and enjoy!

If those aren’t satisfying enough, check out the Givers Log for other amazing edibles. Spend a little more time in your kitchen this season, and spread some love with easy, affordable, and tasty holiday treats.
